Welcome to our Nursery Class
This decision comes as a result of our commitment to providing the best possible educational experience for all children in our community. By extending our provision to include younger children, we aim to create a seamless transition into formal education, fostering a supportive and nurturing environment right from the start of their learning journey.
We believe that introducing children to the school environment at an earlier age will not only enhance their cognitive development but also promote socialisation, emotional well-being, and readiness for future academic challenges. Our experienced teachers are dedicated to providing age-appropriate curriculum and activities that cater to the unique needs and interests of younger learners, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable transition into school life.
Please remember that accepting a place at nursery does not entitle your child to a place in reception year. You must apply for a place with East Riding of Yorkshire Council

Here are some key points to note about the extension of our provision:
- Tailored Curriculum: Our curriculum will be tailored to meet the developmental needs of 3 and 4-year-olds, focusing on foundational skills such as language development, numeracy, social interaction, and creative expression.

- Holistic Development: We will focus not only on academic learning but also on fostering social skills, emotional intelligence, physical development, and creativity, ensuring that each child receives a well-rounded education.
- Smooth Transition: Extending our provision to include younger children will facilitate a smoother transition into primary school for both children and parents, laying a strong foundation for future academic success.
The nursery children will join the Reception class in school, therefore the number of full-time equivalent nursery places will vary according to our admission into Reception for that year. The patterns of attendance available are either morning sessions; afternoon sessions or both morning and afternoon where capacity allows.
The Reception class is call the Puffin class and the nursery children will be referred to as the Pufflings.
When choosing your options, try and think about what will be best for your child. If they tire easily or struggle to concentrate, they may benefit from the morning session rather than the afternoon. In the summer term if capacity allows, those children who are starting school in the September may wish to take up more sessions or attend full days in preparation for full time education.
We offer 15 and 30 hours funded places. Times that exceed your 15 or 30 hours free entitlement will be charged as indicated:

If the lunch time session is included in the funded 15/30 hour provision, you will be charged £2.60 per day for your child’s meal, unless you are in receipt of free school meals – evidence of this to be submitted. |
Children who stay in school for the full day or join us for lunch, may bring a packed lunch or have a school lunch at a cost of £2.60. The children will have a dedicated member of staff to supervise them whilst they are eating and then outside while they are playing in the Early Years outdoor provision. We will encourage friendships with the older members of our school, who really enjoy caring for younger children; nurturing positive relationships and the development of social skills.
The Early Years Foundation Stage covers the safe-guarding, welfare, learning and development of children from birth to five. It is underpinned by four themes and guiding principles which shape and support our Early Years practice.
There are seven areas of learning and development:

- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts & Design
The curriculum is delivered in a variety of ways to provide stimulating playful and challenging learning opportunities for the children. These include planned play activities, small group and whole class activities, and outdoor and indoor provision.
It is important for children to feel comfortable and able to join in with all activities including their own personal toileting and so their clothes need to be easy for them to manage -no belts for instance.
We require children to wear school uniform and we believe that it will help us to create a feeling of togetherness as well as being practical.
The school has blue uniform but we ask that Pufflings wear red so that can be easily identified. As uniform that carries our school logo all looks the same and can easily be mixed up or misplaced, it is essential to put your child’s name in each item of clothing including their coat.
The children are outside a lot so warm coats and hats in the winter and sunhats in the summer are essential. Footwear needs to be black and suitable for all sorts of physical activities without putting your child in danger i.e. when riding a bike or climbing on the climbing frame. Velcro fastenings are a must!
No jewellery, toys or sweets should be brought or worn to school in the interests of safety and long hair must be tied up.

We would be very grateful if your child was independent in using the toilet by the time they start with us. If this is not the case, we encourage you to have a conversation with the class teacher during your visits to ensure that important information about your child is shared.
We will encourage all children to use the toilet during the school day. We will show them how to use the toilet and toilet roll and encourage hand washing. We ask that you will do the same at home to promote independence in this area.
You will be notified that your child has been allocated a place at Flamborough CE Primary School by letter and all further paperwork and consent forms will need to be completed.
Staff will come and visit you and your child at home so that we can find out all about them and you can find out more about the school. During this time, staff will arrange for you and your child to visit the school, which will familiarise you and your child with the school and the staff.
