Design and technology prepares children to take part in the development of tomorrow’s rapidly changing world. Creative thinking encourages children to make positive changes to their quality of life.
Our curriculum has been designed to help pupils to solve problems creatively with increasing independence whether working independently or as part of a team. Its format ensures pupils can build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users. The skills to achieve this span the curriculum from science to art within the designing, making and evaluating stages.
Pupils are encouraged to discuss their work, explore how this work and model their ideas. They are taught the skills to select appropriate tools and techniques for making whilst following safe procedures. Within the topic work, they develop an understanding of technological processes, products and manufacture and their contribution to society.
The curriculum is designed to foster enjoyment, satisfaction and purpose in designing and making.
